Royal Boskalis Westminster Wins Contract for Hornsea 2 Offshore Cable Installation

Royal Boskalis Westminster has won a contract worth more than €100 million from Wind Power for the installation of offshore export cable for the Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm. The contract consists of three export cable circuits with a total length of around 380km. Scope of work includes preparation of the offshore export cable route, which will involve geophysical survey, boulder clearance and seabed levelling through dredging, and the installation and protection of the cables. Three 130m export cables will connect the offshore substation to the onshore substation through a 300m horizontal directional drilling, crossing the sea defence of Horseshoe Point, UK. Work on the project is expected to commence later in 2019 and is planned to be completed in 2021. Boskalis plans to use maximum local content for its scope of work. The company will deploy in-house specialist services and assets, including a trailing suction hopper dredger, a geophysical survey vessel and multiple cable-laying vessels. Boskalis has also invested in a multi-mode plough for the pre-lay trenching and backfilling. The plough, which can withstand 200 tonnes continuous pull, will take up trenching at various depths and in a range of soil circumstances, and is designed to minimise environmental impact. Construction vessel, Boka Falcon, which was acquired recently, will pull the plough. The Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm will comprise 165 turbines with a maximum capacity of 1.4GW and is located approximately 90km off the Yorkshire coast. It will be able to provide clean electricity to 1.6 million homes.

Boskalis Acquires EUR 75 Million Dredging Contracts in Indonesia

Boskalis Westminster N.V. has been awarded two contracts in Indonesia. On the island of Sulawesi, Boskalis will expand the Makassar New Port container terminal and on the island of Java it will prepare land for a new petrochemical complex. Both projects will be executed in the second half of 2019 and carry a combined value of approximately EUR 75 million. The first project, awarded by construction company PT PP, entails the expansion of a new terminal for the Makassar New Port of port operator PT Pelindo IV by 45 hectares. The dredging scope includes the removal of soft clay followed by land reclamation work which requires the dredging and supply of sand. The port is a strategic maritime infrastructure project for the Indonesian government and designated as the gateway to the Eastern Indonesian Archipelago for international container carriers. One of Boskalis' mega trailing suction hopper dredgers will be deployed on this project for a period of approximately half a year. For a new petrochemical complex of Lotte Chemical, which will be located in the coastal city Cilegon on the island of Java, Boskalis will prepare 95 hectares of land for construction purposes by supplying sand and improving the soil by means of vertical drainage executed by Boskalis subsidiary Cofra. This project will be executed for the engineering and construction arm of the South Korean conglomerate Lotte. Boskalis will deploy a jumbo trailing suction hopper dredger for the dredging activities.

The Province of South Holland has announced the intended contract award to Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. for a sub-project of the so-called RijnlandRoute. The total value of the contract is more than EUR 100 million. The final contract award is expected to take place at the end of April. Furthermore, Boskalis will also be responsible for the 10-year maintenance of the road. Boskalis will apply a large number of its own specialisms in the execution of the project, including civil concrete construction, dry earthmoving and Boskalis subsidiary Cofra will carry out soil improvement work. The activities will commence mid-2019 and are expected to be completed by mid-2022.
