Carpenter Technology Corporation and Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. Announce Collaboration to Produce Commercial Aircraft Additive Parts

Carpenter Technology Corporation and Israel Aerospace Industries announced their collaboration to produce additively manufactured components for a serial production commercial aircraft. This collaboration will result in IAI’s first metallic additively-produced parts, which are expected to provide significant manufacturing benefits and lay the groundwork for future design improvements and enhancements. IAI is working closely with Israel’s Civil Aviation Authority for approval of the parts, which when accomplished will represent the first time this technology has been approved for commercial use in Israel. Carpenter Technology, through its Carpenter Additive business unit, is producing the parts and providing supporting information to assist with their approval.

Carpenter Technology Corporation Develops Pyrowear® 225 - a Next Generation Gear Alloy for Critical Transmission Applications

Carpenter Technology Corporation announced that it has developed an advanced jet engine gear solution, Pyrowear® 225 alloy, targeted for high performance and demanding applications. Compared to standard industry solutions, Carpenter Technology’s Pyrowear® 225 alloy offers a combination of 30% higher ultimate strength or 250 degrees F operating temperature improvement. This solution is expected to enable next generation engines to realize further improvements in fuel efficiency, by allowing operation at higher temperatures with reduced weight. Pyrowear® 225 alloy builds on Carpenter Technology’s portfolio of Pyrowear® gear solutions and achieves a typical ultimate strength of 225 KSI, which is a measurable improvement in strength relative to other low-alloy solutions. Results of a comprehensive test program that Carpenter Technology initiated are published in a White Paper that will be distributed at the Paris Air Show. Data from the White Paper will also be included in the Pyrowear® 225 alloy material Data Sheet that will be published soon. Visitors to the International Paris Air Show are welcome to visit Carpenter Technology’s booth, which is located at Hall 5, E232, to learn more about this and other advanced material solutions.

Carpenter Technology and BMT Aerospace Combine Expertise in Redesign and Production of Additively Manufactured Aerospace Component

Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE:CRS) and Belgium-based BMT Aerospace announced their cooperation in the development of an additively manufactured (AM) aerospace pinion, using Carpenter Technology’s Custom 465® Stainless. BMT Aerospace and its subsidiary BMT Additive initiated the project by partnering with Carpenter Technology to produce a redesigned pinion. The redesign project was initiated to enable the benefits of additive manufacturing using high quality, printable material that would attain the high-performance expectations for the application. The cooperation between the two companies resulted in an optimized and simplified manufacturing process for the aerospace part via AM and introduces the opportunity to expand AM part production further across multiple applications. Parts were printed by Carpenter Technology’s business unit Carpenter Additive, using their high-strength, Custom 465® Stainless. Design, validation and post-processing for the redesigned pinion was done by BMT Aerospace. Both companies present the redesigned and printed pinion at their respective booths in Le Bourget, France.
